Bowmore Whisky Vault Edition Atlantic Sea Salt
Bowmore is Islay’s oldest distillery and is home to the world’s oldest whisky maturation warehouse, the No. 1 vaults. In this legendary warehouse, it is where the famous Bowmore whisky has been matured by distillers for nearly 240 years.
Bowmore’s founder, David Simpson, bought the land of which the distillery still stands, in 1766. Bowmore’s distillery is riddled with whisky heritage that is unrivalled to this day.
The Vault Edition is a four-part series, each tailored to what truly defines Bowmore – designed to have the ‘sea salt tang of Bowmore’.
The nose starts off very shy, with hints of buttered popcorn, coconut shavings and a vague nuttiness. There are some salty notes, as is expected with the name of this batch, but it’s not incredibly overpowering.
Peat is barely detectable upon first nosing but will improve once rested for a while. There are notes of pineapple and gooseberry within the nose also, with added smokiness.
The saltiness really comes forward in the palate, with notes of mild soot that can also be noted. You can even take note of subtle vanilla, most likely from the American oak casks with a copper flavour present in the back.
The finish on this particular blend is medium in length, leaving a fairly chalky feeling in the mouth. Salt is also very present here too, with it being well rounded and perceptible.
Overall is a very respectable addition to the series – great for any addition to your collection.
